The Difference

A Night In Khasab Musandam Beach Camping

The day begins on the water and ends under the stars at Saif Al Ghareeb, a small beach with no road in, facing the Gulf of Oman, with Jebel Al Harim visible in the distance.

At 10:00 AM the dhow leaves Khasab port into Khor Sham, passing the fishing villages of Nadafi, Qanaha, Maqlab, Seeb and Sham, reachable only by boat. Telegraph Island and Seebi Island are the two snorkeling stops.

In the afternoon a speed boat carries guests to the beach, where the crew has already pitched tents and laid out sleeping mats, blankets and pillows. Chairs, dining tables and a decorated Majlis are ready on arrival. As the sun drops behind the mountains, campfire, music and lighting come on. Dinner is a beach BBQ at sunset. Breakfast follows the next morning as the sun comes up.

Khasab Musandam Beach Camping Itinerary

Departure and Itinerary

Morning departure: 10:00 AM from Khasab port, returns 9:00 AM next day. Evening departure: 5:00 PM from Khasab port, returns 4:00 PM next day. The itinerary below follows the morning schedule. Evening departure follows the same route and activities starting 7 hours later.

09:30 AM — Dockside at Khasab Port

Your dhow and crew are ready at the dock. Board when you arrive, get settled on deck and the crew serves Arabic coffee, tea, fresh fruits and soft drinks while the boat prepares to depart.

10:00 AM — Into the Khasab Fjords

The dhow leaves Khasab port and heads into Khor Sham. The mountains rise on both sides as the boat moves deeper into the fjord. En route the dhow passes the fishing villages of Nadafi, Qanaha, Maqlab, Seeb and Sham, small communities accessible only by boat.

10:45 AM — Dolphins

Spinner dolphins and humpback dolphins are both common in these waters. The crew cuts the engine when they appear and most groups see them at close range. The boat waits before continuing deeper into the fjord.

12:30 PM — Telegraph Island

The dhow anchors at Telegraph Island, named after the British relay station built here in 1864 as part of the first submarine telegraph cable linking Britain to India. The stone ruins are still visible above the waterline. Below the surface, the water is shallow and clear enough to see butterfly fish, groupers and coral formations without diving. Snorkeling gear and kayaks go in the water here, and this is usually the longer of the two swim stops.

01:00 PM — Lunch on Deck

As the dhow pulls away from Telegraph Island, lunch comes out on deck, fried chicken, lentil curry, mixed vegetable curry, rice, Arabic bread, hummus and salad, with soft drinks and water throughout. Most guests eat while the boat is already moving toward Seebi Island, and enjoy the views of Musandam fjords.

02:00 PM — Seebi Island

Seebi Island sits further along Khor Sham, and the water here tends to be calmer and clearer than at Telegraph Island, with more visible coral and a noticeably higher concentration of fish. It's a shorter stop than the morning one, but many guests find the visibility better, making it worth the second swim even after Telegraph Island.

04:00 PM — Speed Boat Transfer to Beach

Guests transfer from the dhow onto a speed boat for the run to Saif Al Ghareeb, a beach with no road access at all, tucked beneath Jebel Al Harim and facing the open Gulf of Oman. The transfer takes a fraction of the time the dhow would, and it's the only way in or out of this particular stretch of coastline.

06:30 PM — Campfire and Evening Setup

As the sun drops behind the mountains, the crew lights the campfire and sets up music and lighting around the camp. This is typically when the beach empties of daylight activity and the evening slows down.

07:00 PM — BBQ Dinner on the Beach

BBQ dinner is served on the beach including chicken kebab, grilled fish, rice, fried chicken, beef kebab, and fresh salad. After the dinner guests gather around the campfire and enjoy music. Guests sleep in tents pitched directly on the sand. All sleeping arrangements are provided to enjoy a night in beach campsite.

07:00 AM — Breakfast at Sunrise

Breakfast is served on the beach as the sun comes up over the water, with the mountains still catching the early light behind the camp. It includes boiled eggs, jam, Nutella, bread, bottled juices, coffee and tea.

09:00 AM — Return or Join the Cruise

Guests who joined the morning departure return to Khasab port by speed boat at 9:00 AM, ending the trip. Guests who joined the evening departure return by joining the day's full dhow cruise instead, retracing the route through Khor Sham, the dolphins, Telegraph Island, lunch, and Seebi Island, before returning to Khasab port by 4:00 PM.

Real Stories

Booked an all inclusive Dubai to Musandam day trip, would highly recommend. Great communication from start to finish, picked us up from where we were staying. Assistance provided with border crossing. Dhow boat trip was amazing, seen lots of dolphins, had a wonderful lunch and snorkeled in beautiful turquoise waters. All at a very reasonably priced.

My friend and I chose to do a day trip from Dubai and this was perfect! we had an amazing experience with the driver and hosts they settled and handled everything for us, including direct hotel pick up and border crossing. We saw dolphins multiple times and got to snorkel at two beautiful Islands. This company is really 10/10 on everything from booking to the tour itself.

We had such a great time today on the Musandam trip. Rehan organised everything perfectly. Our taxi driver, Zakeen, was excellent and drove us safely and comfortably. On the boat, Captain Mohar and Kumar were incredible – they took amazing care of us from start to finish. From the fishing to the food, every detail was handled with so much attention and kindness.
